Final Virtual Crop Destination Challenge

Destination Challenge #2 - Mall of America

Is everyone having fun with the crop? I hope so. We have a lot of awesome layouts and cards being created. If you haven't yet, stop by the message boards to check out all the fun!!!

Anyway, on to the reason for this post...I am responsible for the destination challenge this week and my destination is....

Mall of America....since the Mall is all about shopping, I want to see a newly purchased item on a layout...haven't bought anything lately? Treat yourself and buy something new.

Angi and Kathy just spent 4 days here its a relaxing spot in Wisconsin's northwoods. A great place to escape and just have some fun with your friends. I spent the weekend with 15 awesome ladies. Hi, I'm Kim and live in the Wausau area with my husband and son. I've been scrapping for 10+ years after seeing a friend's scrapbook. Since then my style has evolved along with the trends in the industry. Most of my layouts tend to be about my son, but I also enjoy scrapping my nieces and nephew and am working my way through the pictures my mom took when I was little.

I am the funny, extremely cute and charming one. ;)
I've been scrapping for over 35 years now...I started when my Dad was a rookie cop during the riots in the 70's and got shot (he survived, LOL!) I started the scrapbooks with all the news paper clippings, ect. Has this hobby ever changed since I started pasting things inthe big albums!!
I now enjoy telling the tales of my toddler on my pages and am currently working on a "book of me" album -- aren't we scrappers so great at getting everyone else on paper that we forget ourselves? This is my year to fix that! I find inspiration in many other people's work and love to see it -- so get off your tushy, grab a blog challenge and get busy! 8-)

I live in a small rural town in west central Wisconsin, I live about 75 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul MN. I have been married to my best friend Doug for 27 years. I am a empty nester and have 2 adult children, my dd just graduated from college and my ds is a sophomore in college.
I am a nurse, I enjoy watching reality shows and nascar racing, I like collecting antiques, and love using and learning my Rebel Camara.
Scrapbooking, to me, is therapeutic, relaxing and a very rewarding hobby; the finished product is something to be treasured for years. I really love how online sites, have helped me developemy craft. I enjoy the forums, challenges, I love galleries, and taking on line classes. I am a DT Member at Croppin Paradise. I have been published at E-zines SNR and RSC. I don't know that I have a particular scrapping style, I like to let the picture and papers talk to me. Through my scrapping habit, I have made and meet many friends. Most of my scrapping involves my family, friends and vactions.
I hope I can inspire you, because I know you already inspire me!!

Hi Im Trudi, I live in Wis. Rapids and I've been scrapping/card making for years but have really just gotten into the past 5 years. I do mostly card making these days and every once in awhile I'll get a layout or mini album done. Most of the paper crafts I do are given away as gifts. I really enjoy the hobby because it's a way for me to use my creativity.

I work full time for a small company in the office. I've been doing secretarial work for 17 years, just 3 years with the current company. I've been married for, soon to be, 4 years to a wonderful man and we just have one furbaby, a chocolate lab, Amber. Besides scrapbooking & card making I enjoy flower gardening in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter. I also teach scrapbooking classes at my local scrapbook store every month and Im also on two other design teams, Sketches by Tamara & The Pink Elephant Challenges. I have made so many wonderful friends in this hobby.

Greeting, fellow papercrafters! My name is Kitty, also known as Kathy R. I've been scrapbooking and cardmaking for the last ten years, on and off in between children. I enjoy it so much! I work on and off doing our family genealogy, and am trying to preserve our family stories through scrapbooking and writing. I love everything about this hobby: I love organizing my scrapbook room, I love being in my scrapbook room, and I love it when I feel creative in my room. I'm sure there's a smile on my face as soon as I open the door. It gives me a break from the mundane household chores, and helps me achieve balance and peace.

Not to mention the wonderful friends I've made throughout the years! This hobby has been a blessing for me in many ways.

Rick and I have been married since 1991. We have three children: Monica is 13, Nick is 10, Erik is 5. We recently added to our family, and our dog Rusty, who is five, joined us in January.

I've been a SAHM, mostly, for the past eight years, but substitute teach every now and then. I will begin searching for a PT job this fall when my baby goes to kindergarten. I hope it doesn't cut out my scrapping time!

Sure Cuts A Lot - Kim B

Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) is a program that allows you to cut any .ttf (true type) font from your computer with your cricut. I was quite skeptical about buying and using it since it isn't a Provocraft product, but after some serious consideration, and a lot of time lurking on the SCAL message boards ( http://forums.surecutsalot.com ) , I decided to give it a try. I AM IN LOVE!!! The software is very easy to use, allows you to weld letters together, and allows you to cut images with the help of Inkscape (a freeware software). I admit that I haven't used Inkscape, but I have been able to find images by searching the SCAL message boards. Unlike Provocraft's Design Studio, SCAL works on Mac computers (you just need to have access to a Windows computer to hook up the Cricut to once to download the firmware update that allows the Cricut to "talk" to the computer).

Once you start up the program, you will see 4 boxes on your screen...DON'T "X" OUT OF THEM! The main box will show your Cricut cutting mat...this is where you will place the letters/shapes you want to cut. You are able to place them wherever you want on the mat, making it easier to use those scraps of paper we all have!! The box below the mat is the font box...that shows you the current font you are working with and all the characters available in that font. This is especially helpful when using dingbat fonts (other than that, I don't use it). To the right, at the top is the font properties box. This is where you would select if you wanted to shadow your font/weld the letters together/etc. Below the font properties box is the library box. This box shows you all the fonts available for you to use. This is the main box that I use to select what font I want to cut.

Highlight the font you want to use, and then click on the mat where you want to place your characters...don't worry, you can always move it if necessary. Type out your title/phrase/whatever and when done you can click on the corners to move around the cutting mat/make the font bigger or smaller. You can also click on individual letters to get a "box" around that letter to resize/move that letter alone. If you want to "weld" your title together, make sure you have the box around the entire title and click on the weld button in the font properties box. Once you have the title looking the way you want, click on cut to cut out your title with your cricut (make sure your cricut is on, you have a cartridge installed, and that the cricut is connected to your computer). Congratulations! You have now cut out a custom scrapbook title!!

Learn how to make this Quick and Easy Spring/Easter Treat Bag

Simple instructions to make this Fun and Easy Treat Bag

Supplies

A card stock solid and/or pattern paper, Score tool, ruler, adhesive, ribbon, tab, eyelet, shape/stencil/punch, or stamp, trimmer, scissors, clear bag, candy and or grass.

Make your base by cutting a square 4 ¼ inch square or 4 ½

score one inch, all the way around the square.

Cut out the left edge of the scored line.

Put adhesive on the corner tabs and assemble the box/base.

Cut a piece of card stock your desired height, 5-7 inches recommended.

Length 9 ½ for smaller base,

11 inches for larger base.

Decorate the front as desired, stamp, cut out, for a window look, Ribbon, Stickers.

Put tape on the bottom edge of the back of the card stock.

Wrap the card stock around the base, put a piece of tape on the side.

Your bag is almost complete.

Put a tab on the top with a eyelet in the center, to put the Ribbon through.This was made with the Cricut, tags, bags and more.

Fill the inside with candy, grass, shred whatever you would like.

I used my Cricut Walk in the Garden, to cut the pattern on the bag, CTMH stamps , ribbon and M & M's

Since I have been spending time moving, putting away and organizing my new scrap space I thought I would share an organizing tip today.

I like to organize my smaller embellishments like brads, clips, eyelets, fibers, pieces of ribbon, etc. in little ziploc baggies. A lot of embellies from my lss come this way already so this part is usually done for me, for all the others that aren't in baggies I picked up a bag of these little ziploc bags at Walmart in the craft section by the jewelry making stuff. I punch a hole in the top of them then put a group of them onto a binder ring. I then clip the binder rings to this fancy little display piece my wonderful dh got me from his work and voila, here's my embellishment storage. The best part I like about storing my embellies this way is when I'm heading to a crop I can just grab whatever rings I want and throw them in with all my crop stuff.

Now, I know none of you have a fancy display piece like I do :) so you could try what I had before I moved to my new scrap space. I just ran a curtain tension rod below a shelf and clipped everything onto there. I like being able to see everything I have so this worked really well for me. If you're torn on what to do with all your little embellies, give this a try. Oh and it's fairly inexpensive too!

I wanted to get some pics to post along with this tip but I didn't get a chance to do that, if I get some though I will get them posted on here.

Some Exciting Changes Coming to the Blog

Hi everyone! Angi has asked me to help out with getting our blog up and going with some excitement :) in hopes to get some more traffic on it and some more activity over on the message boards.

If you have a blog, please add the wisconsin scrappers blog to your blog list in your blog. (If any of you have a question on how to do this let me know).

Our goal for the blog is to have it bustling with activity like weekly challenges (for fun, not prizes), maybe some sketches, tips, organization ideas, layout & card of the week (from layouts and cards that you have created), and maybe even a monthly featured scrapper.

We don't want to take away from the message boards with this blog but rather enhance them and best of all you don't have to be a Wisconsin scrapper to join in on the blog! Actually you don't have to be a Wisconsin scrapper to join the message boards either as far as that goes.

And, if you don't have a blog yet but have been debating on starting one, go ahead and jump right on the blog bandwagon! It's fun and it's so easy, it's like having your own little gallery of your projects and it's a great way to keep in touch with friends and family too!

That's all for now, but keep your eyes peeled for some changes going on over here ;)

I am happy to say that we didn't lose the boards again. Cheezaholic's brother was able to get things working for us so we are back in business. Thanks sooooo much!
Anyway, I'm interested in getting the blog side of the site going since that is so popular right now. I'm going to talk to "the girls" and see what they say...stay tuned.

April Virtual Crop

Friday, April 4th at 8:00am until Sunday, April 13th at 11:59pm

Get ready for some radical new details!!

No Crowns!
You will still be earning points, however it is not the TOTAL points that will determine the Crop Queen! The more points you earn, the more entries you will gain into a random drawing. TWO [different] names will be drawn to determine the prize winners. These two scrappers will the Crop Queens of the April Virtual Crop!

3 Layouts Per Challenge!
Just like the February VC, this time around you may complete (and count points for) up to 3 layouts for any one challenge. However, each single layout can only be counted toward one challenge for points. That is, once the LO has been posted for a particular challenge, it cannot be applied to any other challenges even though it might fulfill the subsequent challenge.

Challenge Threads!
Just like the February VC, each challenge will have it's own thread for you to upload your layout(s). Unlike the February VC, you will have the entire VC to complete each challenge.

Point System
For every 10 (ten) points you earn, you will earn 1 (one) entry into a random drawing to be done at the end of the VC for a prize and title of Crop Queen. Two winners will be drawn. Points will not be rounded up (eg. If you have 19 points, you only get one entry into the drawing, so you'd better quick finish another project before the end of the VC to bump you up over 20 and get a second entry!)

Only layouts/cards/projects started and completed during the VC count toward points. Layouts may be digital. Challenge LOs may be digital unless the challenge is a specific non-digital technique.

**VC hostess will be monitoring points and in the case of an error/miscalculation, without notice may edit an individual's calculated points to be in accordance these posted rules**

Challenge Layouts
Complete a challenge on your posted LO: 5 points

**Challenges only apply to layouts**
**LOs must be 8x8 or larger to qualify for points**

Non-Challenge Layouts
Complete & post an 8x8 or larger LO: 2 points
Complete & post a "blank" 8x8 or larger LO: 1 point
Complete & post a 6x6 or smaller LO: 1 point
Complete & post a "blank" 6x6 or smaller LO: 1 point for every 5 pages posted

**"Blank" means a LO made with the intent to add photos to it later. Eg, Circle Journal, Gift Album**

Complete & post a picture of your altered item, craft project, handmade gift, mini-album, etc etc: 2 points

**Use your best judgment on defining an "altered item". eg. A set of small items, like coasters/tags, should count as just one item. Points may be edited at the discretion of the VC hostess**

April Contest - Diecut Paper

For this month's challenge, make a layout using diecut paper. It seems like everyone is coming out with diecut papers. Let's see some creative ways that you've used those on your layouts. For this challenge you have to use a manufacturers diecut paper, not make your own with your cricuts

RULES:
1. The layout must be a newly made layout for this challenge.
2. Post your pic. of your layout in this thread no later than April 25th to be entered into the voting.
3. One contest submission per member per month (1 or 2 page spread). Though multiple challenge submissions are welcome to help inspire our members, only submit one to the contest!
4. Deadline for layouts submission: the 25th of each month.
5. Voting on layouts will be done by members of the group through a poll on the message board, and will commence on the 26th of the month and end on the 1st of the next month.
6. Winners of the layout contest will be "published" on the Wiscrappers home page for that month, and will receive a prize.
7. The winner will also be featured on the Wiscrapper home page as the "Member of the Month". If the winner has already been the Member of the Month, then the second place winner will become the Member of the Month, unless they have already been the Member of the Month, then the 3rd place winner will be it, etc etc..

I will start a new thread for each challenge, this is where you will post your pic for that challenge.
There will be a thread for non challenge pics also.

NOW TO THE GOOD STUFF...PRIZES!
At the end of the crop I will check over everyones points and the one with the most points will be crowned CARD QUEEN. I will also draw a name (card queen will be excluded) for a prize. For every challenge you complete, you'll get an entry for the drawing. If you complete all the challenges, you will get another entry for the drawing.

There might be a project to go along with the card vc so keep a watch out for that. It'll be worth some points too!

Announcing: Wisconsin Scrappers February VC is officially under way. Why now? Did you find the surprise? Then you have a head-start!!! Pretty sneaky, eh?

Again, we have a new format this time.

Daily Challenges: for completion and posting on the corresponding thread you will get 10 pts. You have 24 hours to complete the challenge and get it posted unless otherwise stated in the challenge thread.

Chats:
For inspiration, getting to know each other better, etc...let's chat every night, starting at 9pm on the week nights. No points to chat...just fun and laughs this time!

Bonus points:
Stay tuned and watch the VC threads, you'll never know when a challenge could appear.

February Layout Contest

This month's challenge is for you to create a layout or project using red, pink white and/or black paper. The layout/project has to be mostly red or pink (or both) and you can use white and/or black with it if you'd like. The layout/project also has to either contain a heart(s) or the word "Love" as a highlight on the page (in other words you can't just journal and have the word love in it, love has to be in the title or something) And one other thing, use some bling on the layout/project. Dig out your glitter or glitter glues, jewels, bling paper etc. I want to see your layout/project sparkle (Don't worry you don't have to have the whole thing sparkly)

Get your February layouts/projects made and enter them. Let's see if we can top the number of entries from last month.
